The National Society of Film Critics (NSFC) have named their favourites of the year. Best Picture of the Year went to Lars von Trier’s apocalyptic drama Melancholia, proving that an anti-semitic rant doesn’t always lead to obscure movies with beaver puppets.
There is justice in the world once again, as The Tree of Life was twice honoured; Brad Pitt was named Best Actor for his two performances in The Tree of Life and Moneyball, only to be outdone by Jessica Chastain, who was named Best Supporting Actress for her three-peat performances in The Help, Take Shelter and The Tree of Life.
The NSFC also named Kirsten Dunst Best Actress for her performance in Melancholia, while throwing a Best Supporting Actor win for veteran Albert Brooks for Drive.
